frequently asked questions

How do I choose a therapist?

The most important factors to consider when looking for a therapist are:

  • The therapist’s expertise with your particular problem
  • Your general "feel" of the therapist and their treatment philosophy
  • Your insurance or payment preferences
  • Your location or tele-health preferences
  • Mutual availability

Great news- These considerations will all be explored during your free phone consultation!

How do I get started?

Seeking support outside of our family and friend support system can feel scary, and searching for the right provider is often overwhelming. Congratulations on opening yourself up to this experience and taking the first steps towards change! Here is a general idea of the process:

  1. Read about the therapist’s services, clinical experience, philosophy, and approaches,
  2. schedule a free phone consultation,
  3. during consultation- determine if it is an appropriate "fit",
  4. confirm benefit information (if applicable),
  5. schedule an intake appointment,
  6. complete paperwork (such as intake forms, etc.), and
  7. attend your first appointment!

What can I expect?

The beginning of treatment is focused on getting to know one another, building trust, and creating a therapeutic alliance. The client and clinician identify the clients presenting problems and strengths. Then, they collaboratively create goals and objectives. Because of the uniqueness of the process and the personal nature of this work, the approaches, interventions, and length of treatment will depend on the client. Ongoing open communication and a mutual commitment to the work will lay the foundation for the achievement of the desired outcomes.

What is tele-health?

Tele-health is also known as “tele-therapy”, “tele-mental health”, “online therapy”, “online counseling”, and “video therapy”. Instead of coming to the office in-person, clients who choose tele-health join the therapy session via the computer or smart phone. Many insurances are now covering tele-health. You may prefer tele-health sessions if you are homebound, have transportation difficulties, are concerned about the COVID-19 pandemic, or simply prefer the comfort of your own home! We provide tele-health sessions to residents of Michigan and New York using an easy-to-use HIPAA-compliant (private) video platform.

How much does it cost?

Pro Therapy Center accepts many insurance plans. We accept major credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA accounts for session fees, copays, and deductibles. The exact cost to you depends on your particular insurance plan, and we can assist you in accessing that information during your free phone consultation.

Clients who choose not to use their insurance can pay for services using credit, debit, or HSA/FSA card. Please see the Disclosure Notice Regarding Patient Protections Against Surprise Billing form below. For clients who choose not to use their insurance, the following session fees apply:

  • Therapy Intake -  $180.00/session
  • 53+ minutes psychotherapy -  $170.00/session
  • 38-52 minutes psychotherapy - $150.00/session
